Seasoning; wood seasoning basically, is the process of reducing the wet wood’s water content to make it fit for burning. IT is the easiest method for the reason that all one has to do is leave the wood for a given period of time in specific conditions. Seasoning will be an easier and faster process if the wood is cut into small pieces of about 10 to 15 inches. Cutting wood helps speed up the evaporation process allowing the wood to dry out within a short period of time.
Stacking: this method helps wood dry out faster but most people mistake it with heaping which is ineffective and slow. When you split the wood is small pieces, choose a spot where there is direct sunlight ans stack them in a single row. It is also advisable that you find an open area where the wind will blow through the pieces of wood. Do not stack the wood up against a wall because it will reduce the circulation of air.
Kiln drying; kiln wood drying involves the use of different sources of heat directly for instance with the use of a quartz heater, or indirectly where one can opt to set up a solar energy fan that will create a wind flow that draws water or moisture from the wood and vents it outside keeping it from being absorbed back into the wood. If one chooses a heat source to dry wood, ensure that there are no open sources of flame that could cause fire. In this method, drying degrade can be prevented unlike in the seasoning method where one cannot control the drying agents.
